Description
The TOP 180° expansion joint profile is a fabric-reinforced PVC profile designed for use in expansion joints on flat surfaces in external thermal insulation systems. Sold in 2.5-metre lengths, it accommodates relative movement between two sections of the façade. Featuring a glass-fibre mesh, it ensures a watertight joint between surfaces whilst preventing cracks from forming at the joint.

The TOP 180° expansion joint profile, item number 25020T, is a fabric-reinforced PVC profile designed for use on expansion joints on the flat surfaces of externally insulated façades. It plays a vital role in ensuring the durability of the finishing render at the building’s structural joints. Its function is to absorb relative movements between two separate parts of the same façade, resulting from dimensional changes in the building structure due to temperature variations or differential settlement of the structure. Made from PVC resistant to alkaline environments, this profile incorporates a fibreglass reinforcement mesh compliant with ETAG 004, which ensures a durable mechanical bond with the undercoat render applied to the insulation on either side of the joint. Without this system, the natural movements of the structure at an expansion joint would inevitably cause cracks to appear in the façade render – a problem frequently encountered on long buildings or those comprising several separate sections. Sold in 2.5-metre lengths, this profile is designed for façade contractors and external thermal insulation contractors who need to neatly treat expansion joints on their sites, whether in new-build or energy-efficient refurbishment projects.
This expansion joint is one of the points I systematically check on the plans before work begins: overlooking an existing expansion joint in the structural work is almost certain to result in a crack in the years to come. Make sure you identify it during the preparation phase, not when the render is being applied.

The expansion profile accommodates the natural movements of the building structure at a structural joint, whereas an external thermal insulation (ETI) façade without a dedicated profile will develop cracks at this point over time.
